There was a noticeable change for Messiah students flipping on their televisions following Spring Break: an adjustment in the channels on Messiah’s cable TV.

Information Technology Services (ITS) has announced that they have modified Messiah’s cable television subscription in order to lower costs and improve quality. With the change, 43 channels are now offered on channels 7 through 49 of Messiah’s cable TV, an increase on the 38 channels that were previously offered.

As part of the contract’s reworking, ITS has announced that all channels will be in high-definition (HD) by the end of the week. Students who do not have an HD television will still be able to get channels through the Standard Definition signal that is distributed by ITS.

TV inputs must be set to “Cable” in order to receive the full listing of channels. If set to “Antenna”, only about a dozen channels can be viewed.

A variety of new channels have been added to the already existing listing. BBC America, CNBC, Disney Channel, ESPNU, FX, Lifetime, MSNBC, NBC Sports Network, NFL Network, and Nickelodeon have all been grouped together in channels 40 through 49. In addition, Women’s Entertainment (WE), Home & Garden TV, Hallmark, and Golf Channel have been added.

Several channels have been kept in the current lineup, but moved to new locations. Network channels CBS, NBC, ABC, FOX, PBS, and the CW have been moved to channels 7 through 12. ABC Family and Cartoon Network have been moved to channels 37 and 38 respectively, while Food Network (22), Comedy Central (32), AMC (33), TLC (34), A&E (35), and USA (36) have also been moved.

No longer listed among Messiah’s channels are CSPAN, CSPAN2, Palladia, TV Land, Univision, and Game Show Network.

A full list can be found below, and is also on Messiah’s ITS blog.
