Renowned book artist Maureen Cummins will be sharing her findings from a study of the lives and struggles of women in an Women’s Herstory Month alternate chapel event this evening from 7-8 p.m. in Frey 110. The event is sponsored by Gender Concerns, 6th Day Sexuality, and the Friends of Murray Library.

Over the past 20-plus years, Cummins has searched histories and first-person accounts of women and their stories of life and struggle. Among the projects covered, she has evaluated personal family documents and events such as the Salem Witch trials, slave narratives, and the Triangle Factory Fire.

Cummins will be sharing on her findings and the working process she has undertaken through a slide lecture, which will be followed by a time of question and answer. After the lecture, a dessert reception with Cummins and a women’s history art exhibition will take place in Murray Library.

During her visit to Messiah, Cummins will also be making stops around campus throughout today. She will be Frey 245 and 251 from noon to 2 p.m. to discuss her own work and share critques on student book designs. A dinner event with Cummins will also be taking place at 5 p.m. in Lottie Nelson Dining Hall’s Private Dining Room for interested students and others.
