Week at a Glance: Feb. 9-15

Below is a rundown of known events happening this week around Messiah College. This list will be updated as events are advertised or made known to The Pulse/The Swinging Bridge.

Alternate Chapels

An alternate chapel entitled “Being Served” will be held in Frey 110 tonight at 6 p.m. Dr. Angela Hare will be speaking to students on what it means for a faith journey to be served while working in an organization that is always doing serving.

Dr. David Hagenbuch and the Messiah College Marketing Club will host an alternate chapel called “Are Super Bowl Ads Mindful Marketing?” in Boyer 131 on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Dr. Hagenbuch and members of the Marketing Club will draw upon a paradigm used on his marketing website (www.MindfulMarketing.org/) to evaluate the mindfulness, or lack thereof, of this year’s Super Bowl advertisements. Their goal is to “identify Christian/biblical values that are either upheld or compromised” by the advertisements.

Entertainment

Faculty member Damian Savarino will be performing a voice recital tonight at 8 p.m. in the High Center Recital Hall.

A new semester of SAB B-Sides concerts begins this week, with eight-piece indie rock ensemble San Fermin performing at the Larsen Student Union on Wednesday at 9 p.m. B-Sides concerts are free to attend. More information on San Fermin can be found on the event’s Facebook page.

The musical Hot Mikado will concluded its performances at Climenhega’s Miller Theatre this week. Shows will be Thursday through Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m. Tickets are $7 for students and $12 for adults; they can be purchased at the Messiah ticket office or online here.

SAB’s Lost Films will be showing the movie St. Vincent this weekend in Parmer Cinema. Showtimes are 6 and 9 p.m. on Friday and 3, 6, and 9 p.m. on Saturday. Tickets are $2 at the door for students with ID and $4 for guests. The movie stars Bill Murray, Melissa McCarthy, and Naomi Watts, and tells the story of an unlikely friendship between a boy whose parents just divorced and his grumpy, eccentric older neighbor.

Senior Luke Forshey will be giving a special hymn composition recital on piano this Sunday at 4 p.m. in the High Center Recital Hall. According to the event’s page on Facebook, a reception and food will also be included.
