Three Messiah teams headed to national tournaments

By Joel Hoover

It is an invitation that Messiah field hockey and men’s and women’s soccer have become very accustomed to receiving at this time of year.

All three teams have learned that they will be going to their respective sport’s NCAA Division III National Championships. The field hockey team received their matchup on Sunday night, while both soccer teams learned theirs Monday afternoon.

Messiah field hockey (14-6) will be making their 14th-straight tournament appearance after winning their eighth-straight Commonwealth Conference title in a 3-0 win over Alvernia on Saturday. An automatic qualifier to the 24-team tournament as a result of winning the conference, Messiah will now travel to Gambier, Ohio to face the Kenyon College Lords (19-2) in the First Round on Wednesday, Nov. 12.
